Overview

Nowadays, television is one of the indispensable items in every home. TV is not only used to provide news through news programs but is also a really useful entertainment medium. However, with the increasing demand for entertainment of the people, the traditional TVs cannot satisfy the human entertainment needs. So, there is the birth of the best smart TVs.

With the advent of a series of smart TVs, this makes users feel confused because they do not know which ones are suitable and of good quality at a reasonable price. This is also the main goal of the article below, we are here to introduce you to the best smart TVs.

Buying Guides

1. Size

Planning a new TV for your living room is truly a delightful, stylish experience in your home. But it also depends on the size of the room that you choose the right size TV. Here are some suggestions for choosing a TV for the size you need to refer to.

  • TV size 32 inch: This is a small size line, the advantage with this screen size is the move, if the TV you often have to move, this is the right choice. It is also possible that you can use this size in very narrow rooms. Usually 32 screens are only equipped with HD and Full HD resolutions. Using a 32-inch TV with a 4K resolution is wasteful. So most brands do not produce 4K TVs on this screen.

  • TV size 40 inch: A 40 inch TV suitable for spaces like the living room. Besides, these TVs are quite flexible and suitable for most other spaces in your home such as bedrooms. Your family can watch this TV at a distance of 5 feet to ensure eye health.

  • TV size 43 inch: A 43 inch TV suitable for most living room space, Sony X800 43 Inch TV is worth its price. This is considered a moderate size for living rooms with an area of 200-215 ft2. In addition, the 43 inch size is also suitable for decoration in places such as living room, meeting room, office. With TVs of this size you should sit 4-5 ft away from the screen.

  • TV size 49 inch: Sony X800H 49 Inch TV is chosen by the majority of users to buy, because this size is not too big and not too small, enough for a family of 4-5 viewers. In particular, the 49 inch TV has many models to choose from. At this size you should sit at least 6ft away from the screen.

  • TV size 55 inch: LG 55NANO85UNA is a relatively large size for TV equipment in the home. A distance of 7-13 ft would be ideal for enjoying a product of this size. Most 55-inch TVs today have two main designs: wall-mounted flat screens or curved screens.

  • TV size 65 inch: LG 65NANO85UNA is suitable for large and medium sized rooms such as living room, meeting room, ... with the recommended viewing distance of 10 ft. On the market today, 65 inch televisions are not too diverse in brands, the products are mainly from reputable manufacturers in the TV market because of such large screens. These technical and processing requirements are also extremely high, not all manufacturers can meet.

  • TV size 75 inch: If you own a large space, you should immediately buy a 75 inch television. The ultra-wide screen with luxurious design and advanced features will help you enjoy the most entertaining moments! The "massive" 75 inch television will be an item that shows the luxury and class of the homeowner in his living space. You also need to note that the TV installation space ensures a distance of 10ft or more to choose the right TV.

  • TV size 85 inch: LG86UN8570PUC is suitable for layout in large spaces such as living room, office, conference room. In addition, the TV can also be hung on the wall as a high-end decoration, adding a luxury to the installed space. In addition, the space should ensure a minimum distance of 11 ft from the viewer to the TV.

2. Resolution

A display screen will be composed of millions of pixels arranged horizontally and vertically. TV screen resolution will reflect this number of pixels, by multiplying 2 numbers horizontally and vertically.

  • A Full HD TV will have 1920 horizontal pixels and 1080 vertical pixels on a TV screen, creating 2,073,600 pixels on the screen. Because of the double pixel count, Full HD TVs are twice as sharp as HD.

  • 4K TV  also known as 4K Ultra HD TV, is a TV with only 3840 horizontal pixels and 2160 pixels vertically on a TV screen, creating 8,294,400 pixels.

  • 8K TVs have super-sharp picture quality with 4 times more pixels than today's 4K resolution. Thereby, the 8K-resolution television series possesses a resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels, which helps the image details become super sharp and superior to any other current resolution.

3. Additional features you need

3.1. HDR - High Dynamic Range

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. The HDR standard built into the TV helps to increase contrast and color, to avoid blurred white parts and loss of detail.

Simply, HDR-standard TVs will display images in bright or dark areas clearer than regular TVs, bringing depth and nature to the picture.

Contrast and color are two new enhancements that bring optimal picture quality for HDR TVs.

Contrast is understood as the difference between the darkest and brightest colors on the same TV frame. HDR TV standards will have to pass strict standards of contrast, so that the black points on the TV will be deepest and darkest, the white points will be brighter.

Colors on HDR TVs must be 10-bit, which means that more than 1 billion separate colors must be displayed. In addition, the television must also meet the ability to display a complex spectrum of colors taken from nature, the higher the visibility, the richer, closer to reality the colors will be.

The best smart TV for watching HDR content we've tested is the Sony X950H. It's well-suited for nearly any type of room setting. It has a high contrast ratio and a full-array local dimming feature, allowing it to produce deep blacks for a fantastic dark room viewing experience. It handles reflections exceptionally well and can overcome glare easily, providing good visibility in bright environments.

3.2. Cheaper alternatives

If you find the Sony X950H too expensive, then check out the Hisense H9G. It's also an Android TV, so you get pretty much the same smart interface and access to apps, but the menu navigation may feel a bit slower. Hisense TVs have another of Hisense core technology. This technology uses 5 chips to control the backlight, the light control and the color display at the same time, with a proprietary algorithm the company develops.

3.3. Best budget smart TVs for streaming

The Hisense H8G is the best smart TV in the budget category that we've tested. It's fairly well-built and looks nice in any setting. It offers good overall performance that most people should be happy with. The built-in Android TV is somewhat easy-to-use but may not feel the most smooth at times. It still has an excellent selection of apps available to download.

It uses a VA panel and has an excellent contrast ratio and decent black uniformity. Despite its budget price, it even has a full-array local dimming feature that performs fairly well. In bright rooms, it has decent reflection handling, and it gets bright enough to combat glare. It displays a wide color gamut for HDR content, but it doesn't get bright enough in that mode to truly bring out highlights. It's a bit limited on gaming features, but it has a good response time, a Black Frame Insertion feature, and a low input lag.

Sadly, it has some uniformity issues as there's a dirty screen effect in the center, which could get distracting during sports, but this may vary between units. It also has narrow viewing angles, but that's expected from a VA panel. Fortunately, it upscales lower-resolution content well, and it removes judder from native 24p sources. Overall, most people should be happy with it, making it the best TV for streaming available in the budget category.

3.4. Roku smart platform alternatives

If you're not a fan of Android TV and prefer Roku TV because it's easier to use and the menu navigation feels smoother, check out TCL 50” 5-Series 4k UHD

It doesn't get as bright as the Hisense H8G, but it displays a much wider color gamut for HDR content. It has a remarkable contrast ratio and good black uniformity, and even though there's a bit of blooming around bright objects, its local dimming features perform fairly well overall. It has great out-of-the-box color accuracy, it upscales lower-resolution content well, and it removes 24p judder from any source, which is rare for a 60Hz TV. Sadly, highlights don't pop the way the creator intended with HDR content because it doesn't get very bright. If you also want to use it for gaming, it has a very good response time, incredibly low input lag, and a Black Frame Insertion feature.

Overall, the Hisense is the better choice if you're on a budget and want the best smart TV we've tested, but if you want Roku TV, check out the TCL.

Best smart TVs under $300 reviewed in 2021

A smart TV has memory, RAM and operating system (Android to Sony TVs, Tizen to Samsung TVs or WebOS to LG TVs). The rich application store meets the entertainment needs of users such as watching movies, listening to music, reading newspapers, playing games.

And most importantly, shoppers need to know the information about the product they want to buy. That is why we are here to help you choose the best smart TV for yourself.

1. OLED Smart TV

OLED is the most advanced image display technology today with each pixel capable of turning on and off independently, creating infinite contrast and absolute black, with a surprisingly thin design.

In 2020, all LG OLED TV products are certified for the ability to filter & reduce Blue light, the main cause of eye and sleep diseases, and is certified by the Safety & engineering TÜV Rheinland - Germany.

Previously, if you wanted to own a smart TV in this line, the cost was also very high. In 2020, LG has brought the BX series OLED TV series with 3 sizes 55 inches, 65 inches and 77 inches with representative products such as LG OLED55CXPUA Alexa Built,  OLED65BXPUA 65 inch BX  being the lowest priced OLED TVs.

LG OLEDCX is the product line that won the "Best TV in the World" award of the Tech Awards 2019.

Compared with the BX series, the "brain" of the CX series has been upgraded to a faster and more powerful AI Alpha A9 Gen 3 intelligent processor.

Especially on the CX series LG brings the world's smallest 4K OLED TV - with a size of 48 inches that is LGOLED48CXPUB, with a pixel density equivalent to a 96-inch 8K TV. This is a great choice for small size rooms.

2. QLED Smart TV

In the high-end TV segment, QLED TVs bring an unprecedented viewing experience with many breakthrough technologies in artificial intelligence, flawless image quality and optimal user experience.

Currently, Samsung QLED TVs have a resolution from 4K to 8K which gives you a vivid viewing experience. The screen produces natural lifelike nano colors, contained in ultra thin edges, and powered by an AI Processor 8K. In the world of lacking 8K content like this, the AI plays a very important role in enhancing the 4K or lower resolution content to 8K, promising to reach 80% of the quality if the video were actually shot in 8K. And as you know that it comes with native support for major streaming services, Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, and others. Check out the 8K version of the NanoCell or this LG NanoCell 4K TV

4. LED TV

When you have heard of OLED and QLED, LED seems a little out of fashion. However, LED is the foundation for all of those above to grow and develop on. Currently, the LED TVs aren’t shipping with the flagship lineups but only the low-budget range. Visio, TCL, Insianga are three major brands that are making LED Smart TVs. LED TVs are affordable, completely developed, and packed with the most essential features. VIZIO D D55-E0 55" 2160p LED is made with HDR integrated, 4K resolution, thin bezels, Netflix and Youtube apps built-in. It is recommended for someone who doesn’t need the most beautiful TV in the world but cares more about the real features that make the TV work.

FAQs

1. How to choose the TV size?

You should choose to buy a TV with a suitable size for the TV installation space. And more importantly, the room should be large enough for you to maintain a suitable and safe TV viewing distance.

Therefore, if you own a narrow room, you should not buy a widescreen TV, as this will lead to you having to sit too close to the TV, causing eye damage.

2. Should you choose regular TV or Smart TV?

  • Traditional TV

A type of television with only basic features such as watching TV (including channels normally received by an antenna and channels received by a DVB-T2 digital receiver) and mechanical ports.

  • Smart TV

Smart TV is a smart TV that runs on the platform of a certain operating system, has memory, processor RAM and smart interface. If you buy a television just to watch TV, and sometimes plug in a USB to watch movies, then you should only buy regular television.

If you want to buy a TV that can connect to the network, to experience online entertainment features such as reading newspapers, listening to music, watching movies, connecting to a smart home, and controlling by voice, smart TV is the best choice.

3. How does the smart TV connect to the internet?

Just like a computer, the smart TV uses an Ethernet cord or a Wi-Fi tuner to connect to the internet. However, because the Wi-Fi receivers of these TVs are not really good, you need to consider the placement between the TV and the Wi-Fi transmitter in the house. If the TV is on the 5th floor but the Wi-Fi department is below the 3rd floor, chances are your internet connection will not be fast enough to watch Youtube or movies on the internet.

4. Are applications and software on smart TV regularly updated?

This issue depends on the manufacturer. Most manufacturers add and modify their apps or interfaces. But some companies will do this faster than others.

In general, the major manufacturers update their software and applications over time. The operating systems of Sony or Samsung have upgraded a few versions, or apps like Youtube have had major interface changes over the years.

5. What are the warranty policies on smart TVs?

Smart TVs don’t differ from traditional TVs on this. TVs, in general, offer buyers with one year of warranty. Some generous brands can make it to 2 or 3 years of warranty services. However, TVs, especially smart TVs, operate themselves indoors, so they don’t break often. That’s why you should not worry about the warranty of your products. However, if you still want to have peace of mind on the warranty, check out Epic Protect - a brand that offers additional warranty period on TVs and electronic devices.

Final Thoughts

The ultimate choice for smart TV is none other than LGOLED48CXPUB which is the best TV in the world. If you need another smart TV that's cheaper but still has some great functions then Hisense H9G is the best choice for you.
